Exchange rate

We use one fixed rate: £1 = AED 4.8672. It is the Bank of England spot rate of $1.3253 per pound on 15 October 2026, times the UAE dirham peg of AED 3.6725 per US dollar. Exchange rates move, so check the rate on the day you compare an offer.

Income tax in Dubai

The UAE does not levy income tax on individuals, so a Dubai salary is paid without income tax taken off. That is why the Dubai salary that matches your UK take-home is simply your monthly take-home in dirhams.

Questions

Is there income tax on salaries in Dubai?

No. The UAE does not levy income tax on individuals, according to the UAE Government portal. It does charge 5% VAT on most goods and services.

Which UK tax year do these figures use?

The 2026 to 2027 tax year, from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027, with the income tax and National Insurance rates published on GOV.UK for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Do the figures work for Scotland?

No. Scotland has different income tax bands, so take-home pay in Scotland differs from these figures. National Insurance is the same across the UK.

Are student loan repayments included?

No. Student loan and postgraduate loan repayments are not included, so if you repay a loan your UK take-home is lower than shown.

How is the Dubai salary that matches worked out?

It is your UK take-home pay with no pension, divided by 12 and converted at £1 = AED 4.8672. For example, £50,000 leaves £39,520 a year, which is AED 16,029 a month.

Which exchange rate do you use?

One fixed rate: the Bank of England spot rate of $1.3253 per pound on 15 October 2026, times the UAE dirham peg of AED 3.6725 per US dollar, which gives £1 = AED 4.8672.
